Champlain Township, the perfect setting for you!

In this day and age, everybody is vying for a competitive edge. What if you are simply looking for a convenient business location and slowing your pace of living? Champlain Township may very well have what you’re looking for…

Champlain Township is located just one hour’s drive from three major markets – Ottawa, Montreal and Cornwall – moving your goods or services by road or by air (Mirabel, specialized in cargo freight, is only one hour away) will prove easy. Our business park still has one location (approximately 1.5 acres) up for sale at a very reasonable price. If you were thinking about putting up a building, this could be your spot! On the skills front, many experienced workers live in our area and they would prove an asset to your operations. Not a factor to be overlooked in the business world, a healthy portion of these skilled workers are bilingual, which will make client relations more efficient.

On a human perspective, we think our main asset is our 9,000 residents. Deeply rooted families still have strong ties to agriculture, while others have branched off into business and services. Our residents have always been very friendly and community-oriented. Even in this 21st century, family-run businesses, associations and events abound. You have a family? There are many schools from which you can choose. Homes remain affordable and they are located in some of the nicest meadows of Eastern Ontario. To sum it up : accessibility, available workforce, bilingual setting, quiet country life at your doorstep…. We would be pleased to have you visit!

One contact person is available at Champlain Township to answer your questions or even to show you around. Get in touch with Economic Coordinator Jacques Des Becquets, at 613 678-3003. He will be pleased to assist you.

Champlain Business Spotlight

Between the months of April and December 2010, Champlain Township, in collaboration with Vankleek Hill’s The Review (and its associated websites) and the Vankleek Hill Business and Merchant Association, presented a pilot project whereby various business owners within the Township were interviewed. Some 20 owners participated and we thank them for their cooperation. The goal of this project was to offer some visibility and we hope we were able to help in this respect. L’Orignal’s Ferme Kapra Farm was the backdrop for an Ontarian announcement, on Friday, September 10, 2010. Glengarry-Prescott-Russell M.P.P. Jean-Marc Lalonde announced the four-year Ontario Market Investment Fund Program is allocating $100,000.00 to promote local food (meats, a distribution system, the famed AgriTour, a local foods symposium, a thematic map) and marketing projects in Prescott and Russell as well as creating an agri-food officer. Mr. Lalonde recognized intense lobbying efforts from the United Counties’ Economic Development and Tourism Office, as well as those of the Union des cultivateurs franco-ontariens (UCFO) in the last two years to obtain this financing. Champlain Township Mayor Gary J. Barton, speaking on behalf of 2010 United Counties Warden Conrad Lamadeleine, also congratulated L’Orignal Packing for having received a Coup de Coeur prize during the very successful Foire gourmande Outaouais – Est ontarien, on August 29th, 2010.

2nd edition of the Tourist Welcome Day in Prescott-Russell

PHOTO: Champlain Township

Thursday, June 24th, 2010, proved to be a travelling day for many people coming in Ontario at the provincial Tourist Information Centre in Chute-à-Blondeau. Hundreds of Québec visitors were greeted by information booths which some organizations and businesses had set up along the path leading to the main building. Many travellers – including some Rotary Club International members who had just attended a convention in Montréal – asked questions in regard to the attractions in Prescott and Russell. Some agreed to take the scenic route along County Road 17 to drive through the villages along the way. On this photo, the Lavoie family from the greater Montréal area made good use of the pamphlets available from the various organizations. Parents Robert Lavoie and Elaine L’Écuyer, along with siblings Natael and Noélie, spent a few moments at the Champlain Township booth before resuming their trip. The event was coordinated by the Prescott and Russell Economic Development and Tourism Office.
