The Church of the Nativity, L'Orignal - (1890)


This white, wooden, simple styled church was built in 1890 and the first service was on Christmas Eve 1891, hence, the name Church of the Nativity. The first priest was the Reverend Arthur Phillips (1875-1897) : (1902-1913)

The organ was installed on November 27th, 1896 and the organist was Mrs. E.A. Johnson, wife of Captain E.A. Johnson who became the local sheriff.

This parish was separate for three (3) years (1898-1901) with Alfred, Caledonia Springs. There were two (2) priests, the Rev. Wilfred Williams Henry Thomas (1924 concentrated 1st Bishop of Brandon ) and Rev. William Netten, later Rector of the Trinity Church in Cornwall. Rev. Netten returned to the Parish of Hawkesbury.

Families connected (1930): Allen, Cass, Graham, Douglas, Higginson, Johnson, MacLeod, Marston, McKercher, Nield.
