Built in 1824-25, the Ottawa District Courthouse in L’Orignal is Ontario’s oldest operating
courthouse. This stone building with its classical proportions, included the county jail until 1998 and was home to the county council until 1962. Historically, this courthouse is the most important government building in the region.
