Chamlain Public Library

Champlain Township Public Library has come a long way from its humble beginnings, when it operated out of private homes.

Located for many years at the former Vankleek Hill Town Hall, the library moved to its present location at 94 Main Street East, after the St. John’s Masonic Lodge purchased the building from The Bank of Nova Scotia in 1984, and subsequently sold the building to the Town.

Extensive renovations to the library – the first in 18 years – began in December 2001. In designing the new look, special attention was paid to maximizing the use of space, preserving the historical integrity of the building, while at the same time creating an attractive, practical space for the public to enjoy. The work was completed in the spring of 2002.

Serving the Community

The library has a wide selection of resources for Adult, Young Adult and Juvenile readers. More than 17,000 books are on the shelves, with new ones arriving each month. DVDs, videos, magazines and music CDs are also available, and last year we filled more than 500 Inter-Library Loan requests.

Our Children’s Craft Evenings allow youngsters to exlore their creativity. Tuesday mornings from 10 to 11 o’clock, parents and care givers bring little ones to our bilingual Story Hour. Each session includes theme-related stories, a mini-craft activity and a snack of juice and crackers.

There are five Community Access Program (C.A.P.) computers with high-speed wireless Internet available free of charge to Champlain Library members and to non-resident visitors.

Home Delivery Service

Books and magazines are home-delivered to members with limited mobility, thanks to our dedicated volunteers. Three local Seniors’ Residences are also served by this excellent program.
