Ongoing Work at the Library

Posted On Monday September 27, 2021

Champlain, September 27, 2021—Based on a building condition assessment study, submitted to the municipal Council in 2019, the township staff worked closely with the engineering firm to prepare a detailed work plan to address the priority deficiencies and to establish a 1–5-year budget based on the work identified in the report.

Although the pandemic caused several work delays, some electrical work was done this summer. In addition, several structural works are currently underway in the library and the Masonic lodge, such as the addition of structural beams and columns on each floor. Several doors will be replaced with fire-retardant doors for security purposes and a new fire alarm system will be installed to meet fire code requirements. And finally, the Township will soon begin the plastering and painting of the interior walls.

Champlain Township as well as the other contractors involved in the project wish to complete the work before the end of 2021 and thus reopen the library to the public as soon as possible. However, the library’s services are still maintained. Residents can reserve their books online on www.bc-cl.ca or at 613 678-2216 and then pick them up at the curb side of the library.
