Holiday Season in Champlain!

Posted On Wednesday December 01, 2021

When the trees are cleared, the weather is gray and the nights are chilly, Champlain is decked out in its brightest lights and preparing to welcome the holiday celebrations.

Gingerbread House Contest

From December 1 to 20, you could be selected as the "Official Champlain Gingerbread House Maker"! Visit our Facebook page @Champlain.ON and post a photo of your gingerbread house in comments under the contest post or send your photo to inforecreation@champlain.ca.

The first 20 families to contact the Parks and Recreation Department will receive a free building kit, which must be picked up at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre. To receive one of the 20 kits, contact us at 613 678-3601 or inforecreation@champlain.ca.

The winner(s) will be announced on December 21. Good luck to all the little crafters!

Holiday Collection Schedule

This year, the holidays will not affect regular collections. They will occur as usual.

Natural Christmas Trees Collection

Natural trees will be collected during the week of January 3rd. Place your Christmas tree no later than 7 a.m. on the Monday. No vehicle will return to an area if pickup has already occurred. Ensure trees are behind the curb and not in the path of the snowplows.

  • Remove all decorations from the Christmas tree.
  • Do not place the tree in a plastic bag.
  • Place the tree with the base facing the street.
  • Make sure the tree is not covered in snow and is not obstructing the sidewalk.
  • When snow is expected, make sure the Christmas tree is not obstructing the road to facilitate loading.

Winter Parking Restrictions

Are you expecting guests over the holidays? Make sure you have enough spaces in your parking lot to avoid unpleasant surprises.

  • In L'Orignal and Vankleek Hill, overnight parking is prohibited between midnight and 7 a.m. from October 31 to March 31.
  • In Longueuil and West Hawkesbury, parking on the street is prohibited at all times from October 31 to March 31.

Plan accordingly.

Happy Holidays to all Champlain residents!
