Vankleek Hill Industrial Park
Champlain Township is a municipality in Eastern Ontario generally bounded to the North by the Ottawa River and the Town of Hawkesbury, to the South by the 417, to the East by the Municipality of East Hawkesbury to the West Municipality by Nation Municipality. The Township was created in 1998, as the result of a municipal amalgamation of four former municipalities: the Village of L’Orignal, the Town of Vankleek Hill, the Township of Longueuil, and the Township of West Hawkesbury.
The Vankleek Hill Industrial Park is located at the eastern limits of the former Town of Vankleek Hill in the Township of Champlain (population 8700). A large town, Hawkesbury, is approximately 8 km to the north (population 11,000). This a rural area which is of Ottawa by about 70 km. The economic base is mainly rural with many prosperous farms being located in the general vicinity.
Located North of County Rd. 10, the Vankleek Hill Industrial Park is situated on former railway lands 5 km from Highway 417, 1 km from Highway 34 and 11 km from the Quebec border bridge in Hawkesbury. The total land area forming part of the industrial zone is 140 Acres. The land to the North, South and East is in agricultural and rural residential use. The settlement boundary for the Village of Vankleek Hill is located immediately to the West.
The Vankleek Hill Industrial Park is part of the United Counties of Prescott and Russell "Traide and Industry Policy Area". It is a natural extension of the community's historic industrial uses. It is within proximity to the community's former foundries, railway station, grain elevator and sawmills. In the last 15 years, the industrial park has seen a notable uptake in agricultural and agricultural-related manufacturing. These businesses include Beau's, Kyan Culture and Sarah Cole Cidery. The area is the location of destination traffic as agro-tourism operators tend to cluster over time. The area's historical nodes and historic uses have the potential to provide storytelling and connect this area to mainstreet.
