Champlain Providing Funding for Not-For-Profit Operational Expenses, Event Organizers and Businesses

Champlain Township, October 17, 2022 - Champlain Township is pleased to introduce its newly revised municipal grant policy, grants that will benefit all types of organizations. The new Municipal Grants Policy will further enable the Township of Champlain to efficiently and equitably recognize the valuable contributions made by community organizations and volunteer groups to improve the well-being of the community and the quality of life for its residents.

A new Municipal Grants Policy has been prepared to ensure a fair, transparent and equitable process. This new Municipal Grants Policy will guide the financial support offered to organizations and further position the Township as an active member of the community's development.

Three types of grants are available and will provide fair levels of financial support and assistance to organizations based on what they will be using the funds for. This Policy establishes clear eligibility criteria and encourages community organizations to create sustainable funding plans suitable to their initiative. The policy's application and selection process sections ensure administrative efficiency for municipal staff and Council. To ensure that funding is used effectively, only one grant will be awarded per organization per year and a detailed justification must be provided with the application if the funding requested is significantly higher than the last application. The different types of grants awarded under the Municipal Grants Policy will be as identified:

Community Grant: Funding and/or In-kind support for not-for-profit organizations to deliver programs and services that keep Champlain residents active, healthy and engaged in their community.

Special Event Grant: Funding and/or In-kind support for a new or an existing one-time event that is cultural, social, tourist or recreational, which provides significant benefit to the broad community but is open to all members of the public. Not-for-profit and for-profit organizations are eligible to receive the grant. A for-profit organization can receive municipal funding for a special event if 100% of the event's profits are donated to a non-profit organization. If an organization plans to organize multiple events throughout the year, only one application is required outlining all of the events, as only one grant will be awarded per organization per year.

Facility Usage Grant: Provides not-for-profit organizations' use of municipal facilities free of charge. The funding cannot be redeemed in cash funds to the applicant.

Information about the various grants is available at www.champlain.ca/grants. Organizations may apply from October 17 to November 30 for 2023 projects. No more funding requests will be accepted during the year.
