Champlain Township Celebrates François Bellemare: Honorary Warden’s Award Recipient

L'Orignal, November 26, 2024 — The Township of Champlain is proud to shine a spotlight on an exceptional individual whose contributions to our community have left an indelible mark. Last Saturday, François Bellemare, a dedicated volunteer firefighter and active community member, was awarded the Honorary Warden’s Award, a recognition of his unwavering commitment and selfless service to our region, during the annual Warden’s Banquet of United Counties of Prescott and Russell.

François Bellemare is the embodiment of community spirit. Since 2013, he has served as a volunteer firefighter for Champlain Township, safeguarding the residents of L’Orignal with courage and dedication. Beyond his role as a firefighter, he has gone above and beyond, sharing his expertise as an instructor and mentor to younger firefighters, instilling in them the values of teamwork, service, and excellence.

François Bellemare’s dedication to the community extends far beyond his role as a volunteer firefighter, where he has served Champlain Township for over 11 years. He has been instrumental in organizing the annual food drives for the L’Orignal Food Bank, ensuring holiday food baskets reach over 50 families, and leads the coordination of Canada Day celebrations, bringing together volunteers, vendors, and entertainment to create a memorable, free event for the community. As treasurer of the L’Orignal Firefighters Association, he furthers the charitable and community work of the department, while also playing a key role in projects like constructing accessible structures at Sasha Park and supporting regional firefighters through events like the Prescott and Russell Firefighters’ Mutual Aid Association Gala.

“François Bellemare is a humble, proactive, and pragmatic leader whose tireless efforts, passion for service, and ability to inspire others have left an indelible mark on Champlain Township,” said Normand Riopel, Mayor of Champlain Township and UCPR Warden. “He has earned the respect of his peers and serves as a true mentor. His engaging personality and ability to inspire others to get involved are invaluable. Always at the centre of the action, but away from the spotlight, he never seeks recognition, always attributing success to his teammates.”

Champlain Township is fortunate to count François Bellemare as one of its own. His tireless efforts have not only made our community safer but also brought us closer together. On behalf of all residents, we extend our heartfelt congratulations to François on this well-deserved honour.
