Champlain Township Council supports White Ribbon Day 2022

Champlain Township Council supports White Ribbon Campaign 2022 to end men’s violence against women and girls

Champlain Township, December 12, 2022 - It is with great pride that our male elected officials and staff wore the White Ribbon on Thursday, December 8, during Council meeting. Champlain Township followed many community partners in support of this campaign. Wearing the white ribbon is a way for men to express their support in the fight against sexism ans violence against women and girls. The White Ribbon campaign aims to end violence against women and girls. Since 1991, men have worn white ribbons as a pledge to never commit, condone, or remain silent about all forms of gender-based violence and discrimination.

"November 25 to December 10 are known as the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender Violence. These days of activism are celebrated across Canada and include the National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women on December 6, as a sad reminder of the Polytechnique de Montréal massacre in which 14 young women lost their lives." stated Maison Interlude and Leadership féminin Prescott-Russell.

Violence Against Women Impacts All Canadians

It is important to educate yourself to be part of the solution, and act as a positive force of change in your community.

  • 1 in 3 women and girls experience physical or sexual violence in their lifetime.
  • 50% of all women in Canada have experienced at least one incident of physical or sexual violence since the age of 16.
  • $7.4 billion dollars is spent every year by Canadians collectively to deal with the aftermath of spousal violence alone.
