Flags Will Fly at Half-Mast in Champlain in Honour of Former Fire Chief Bruce Barton

It is with profound sadness that the Township of Champlain has been informed of the passing of Bruce Barton, former Fire Chief of Station 1, on May 31, 2023.

Born and raised in Vankleek Hill, Mr. Barton began his career with the Township in 1967 as a volunteer firefighter for Vankleek Hill and rose through the ranks to become Fire Chief in 1987.  Bruce served his community with honour and pride for 45 years until his retirement. In 2012, he was honoured for his many years of service by having the fire hall in Vankleek Hill renamed the "Bruce Barton Fire Hall."

A celebration of Bruce's Life will be held on Thursday, June 8, 2023, from 1:30 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Vankleek Hill Curling Club 136 Bond Street, Vankleek Hill. Please visit the Hillcrest Funeral Home website for further details.

Council members, Township staff, and members of the Fire Department will be present to pay tribute to Mr. Barton at the funeral service. Flags will fly at half-mast at all Township buildings during this time.
