On April 14, the Township amended the full fire ban to permit campfires and burning in a container.

Here are some important clarifications about CAMPFIRES as per the Municipal By-Law:

  • Campfires are defined as an open fire that is no greater than one (1) meter in diameter, which is set and maintained solely for the purpose of cooking food, providing warmth and recreational enjoyment;
  • It is not for the purpose of burning leaves, branches or dried grass;
  • The fire shall be supervised at all times and never left unattended until it is completely extinguished;
  • Do not make fires on windy days when there is a risk of spreading the fire to other areas.

These preventative measures aim to reduce the number of preventable human-caused fires and to limit non-essential calls for service during the COVID-19 outbreak to help ensure that staff is available and healthy when emergencies occur.
