Passing of Councillor Jacques Lacelle

Champlain Township, October 6, 2022 - It is with great sadness that the Township of Champlain announces the passing of Councillor Jacques Lacelle on October 3, 2022 at the age of 71.

“On behalf of Council and all Champlain staff, I would like to extend my sincere condolences to his friends and family,” said Mayor Normand Riopel. “Jacques was a valued member of Council and a true community leader. His presence will be missed throughout the community by friends, family and residents.”

Mr. Lacelle served as Councillor for L’Orignal from November 2011, until now, as he was  just short of a few months to complete his third term as Councillor with the Champlain Township.

In his professional career, Mr. Lacelle worked at IVACO Rolling Mills for 30 years performing different functions in the plant and the offices. Community volunteer service was an integral part of his life, and the community would be a far lesser place if it were not for his contributions as the President of L’Orignal Food Bank since 2016, where he organized many successful fundraisers such as golf tournaments and community garage sales.

As a resident of L’Orignal for 25 years and Councillor for 12 years, Mr. Lacelle contributed time and energy to many causes, helping people, taking part in community events such as winter carnivals, Canada Day, Christmas gift baskets for families in need, just to name a few.

The funeral arrangements have been entrusted to the Maison Funéraire Desforges. Mr. Jacques Lacelle was the husband of the late Andrée Hébert. Predeceased by his parents Gabriel Lacelle and Irène Bériault. He leaves his daughter Danielle (Yves), his grandchildren Gabriel, Noémie and Chloé, his wife's children, Christiane (Jean-Yves), Roger (Julie), Robert, Michel and Carole (Pierre), his sisters, Louise (Raymond), Jocelyne (late Raymond) and Guylaine, his brothers, Louis (Micheline), Richard (Claire). Sylvain (Manon), Jean-Marc (Denise) and Yvon as well as his wife's grandchildren, many brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nephews, nieces and friends.

Flags at municipal offices have been lowered half-mast to honour the passing and legacy of Councillor Jacques Lacelle. A memorial service will be held on Friday, October 14 at 2:00 p.m. at Paroisse St-Jean Baptiste (1057 Queen St, L'Orignal). Sympathy will be taken at 1:15 p.m. by the family. Donations to the Hawkesbury General Hospital Foundation would be appreciated rather than flowers.
