SPRING FLOOD - CHAMPLAIN UPDATE 6

NEW UPDATE ON RISK OF FLOODING.

Champlain, April 25, 2019, 10 p.m.– Champlain Township is providing an update on the risk of flooding.

At the end of the afternoon, we received an alert from Québec Alert Ready about a Risk of dam failure. Issued by ministère de la Sécurité publique this alert is in effect for: Rouge river downstream of the Chute-Bell dam to Outaouais river, Grenville-sur-la-Rouge.

The Municipal Emergency Control group immediately convened a meeting
at the municipal office for coordinating emergency measures. The dam structure still hold and the state of emergency is not declared for now but we are prepared.

Municipal crews are closely monitoring the entire territory to ensure the safety of the people. Firefighters are helping protect property, filling and moving sandbags and conducting wellness checks.

The township urge people who lives in the lowland areas on the Ottawa river to remain alert. They should be ready to evacuate any time. Place in a backpack or in a storage bin some items you might need: prescription medications, personal care items, spare clothing, personal I.D., pet care items,… just so you feel safer if you have to leave rapidly.
