NEWS RELEASE
NEW UPDATE ON RISK OF FLOODING.
Champlain, April 27, 2019, 7:30 p.m.– Champlain Township is providing an update on the risk of flooding.
The Township of Champlain wants to reassure the population that although the water level has risen, there is no cause for immediate concern. We have a large amount of sandbags ready to adjust to any change in the situation.
Municipal crews are closely monitoring the entire territory to ensure the safety of the residents. Firefighters are helping protect property by erecting and adjusting sandbag barriers.
The Township is urging people to remain alert. They should be ready to evacuate on short notice. Place the tems you might need in a backpack or in a storage bin: prescription medications, personal care items, spare clothing, personal I.D., pet care items,… just so you feel safer if you have to leave rapidly.
If you have to evacuate you may choose to go to a hotel, stay with friends or family in a safe location, or go to a shelter.
With the help of the Red Cross an emergency shelter was set up in Clarence Creek: the Clarence Creek arena (418 Lemay St, Clarence Creek) is now available as a 24-hour emergency shelter * fully accessible * staffed by the Red Cross.
Be prepared, stay safe.
