The Township of Champlain Receives a Major Donation of $60,000 From the Knights of Columbus of L’Orignal St-Jean Baptiste

Champlain Township, November 10, 2022 - It is with great gratitude that the Township of Champlain announces a contribution of $60,000 from the Knights of Columbus Council of St. Jean Baptiste from L'Orignal.

A portion of these funds will be used to convert and maintain a brand new pedestrian trail, formerly known as Roland Road, which will close the loop between Des Chalets Street and Bay Road, between L'Orignal and the Longueuil. Roland Road is already well known to walkers who enjoy walking their dogs and observing the wild life on this small wooded trail.

"We believe that this project will be a great asset for our municipality. This trail will certainly benefit the elderly who are looking for a peaceful spot to take a walk. In addition, it is close to La Seigneurie retirement home. The Knights of Columbus are very proud to contribute to this project" stated Mr. Marcel Clément, Grand Knight of the St-Jean Baptiste Council.

The remaining funds will be used to extend the retaining wall at L'Orignal Park along the shores of the Ottawa River by 30 feet. The retaining wall protects the shoreline from erosion, especially when the ice melts, and protects L'Orignal Park from flooding due to fluctuations in the water level of the Ottawa River.

Lisa Burroughs, Director of Parks and Recreation for the Township of Champlain, thanked the generous donation and noted the valuable contribution that community organizations make to a community like Champlain. "The support of committed people directly contributes to the improvement of municipal facilities and services. Our facilities are used extensively by residents and donations such as this one allow us to move projects forward sooner and provide high-quality facilities for our community”.
