Back by popular demand, Boot Camp is a group exercise class that mixes the traditional fitness movements and body weight exercises that we know, with interval and strength training. Andrée will coach you toward improving your long-term health and wellness goals through movements that will accommodate the fitness level of the participants in each class.

This class will help increase endurance, build muscle, increase core strength and offer a complete body workout in a motivating group atmosphere. This class is best suited for intermediate fitness levels or higher and without any distinctions between men and women.

Boot Camp will be offered Mondays at 7:00 p.m. and Thursdays at 6:00 p.m. out of the Vankleek Hill Community Centre for a 50 minute session.

Patrick Labre from Fitlife Gym joins our Be More ACTIVE Team in 2019!

Box Fit is a high energy group class that will get your heart rate up and your entire body moving. The movements in this full body workout are inspired by Kick Boxing and will include some partner and pad work. Patrick will also focus on shaping and strengthening the arms, legs, gluts and abs.

This class is fairly intense and is sure to improve the metabolism, muscle mass, energy levels, confidence and endurance for all fitness levels.

This class is offered at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre Hall Tuesdays at 6:30 p.m., you do not need boxing experience but are encouraged to bring boxing gloves if you have them.

Geneviève Thibodeau joins our Be More ACTIVE Team for 2019!

Fit Mama is a fitness class for new moms to help them strengthen their core, arms and legs and build up their cardio.

Day to day, Genevieve works in physical rehabilitation, is an osteopath practitioner as well as a tri-athlete and mother of a little boy. With several years of knowledge and experience working with pregnant or post-partum women, Genevieve will show you how to do physical activity with your little ones (babies are welcome), share her knowledge and will deliver a class that suits individual abilities.    

Classes will take place at Chalet-Abri in L’Orignal every Tuesday from 9:30 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.

Linda Trottier, of FitLife Gym returns to our Be More ACTIVE program and adds a second class!

Step Aerobics is a great class for men and women of all fitness levels. This class is a high energy class that will build your cardio, burn calories and keep your mind and body moving for 60 minutes. This class is full of combinations to workout your entire body with a focus on arms, legs, gluts and mid-section.

Linda brings step into our modern world on Mondays AND Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m. adding fresh music, punch combinations and light weights for those who choose.

ROLL & RELEASE - Tension Release & Mobility Increase

Are you looking to increase mobility & strength, release tension and have your body feel good when you wake up? This self-care class is ideal for seniors looking to increase blood flow and range of motion, great for athletes who want to treat sore muscles and is perfect for anyone who wants to keep their insides and outside moving well.

Stéphanie will provide small hand-held balls and will teach a roll and release yoga technique that will help increase posture, strength and circulation. Treat yourself to a therapeutic hour that will help relax the body through deep tissue work and calm the mind using deep breathing techniques.

This class will be offered on Wednesdays at 11:00 a.m. at the Vankleek Hill Community Centre.

*NEW 

Tiny dancers and their best plush friend are invited to come and explore the world of dance through Bunny Ballet. Alongside a parent or guardian, children age 0-5 years will explore ballet basics and dance moves hand in hand with their favorite stuffy.  Half way through the class we shall change it up and dress in traditional Flamenco dress, put on our stomping shoes and get a little loud as we explore traditional Flamenco rhythms, music and dance moves.

Parents and their kids can join us on Thursday mornings from 10am to 11am upstairs in the Vankleek Hill Community Centre Hall. No costume required, all items are available to borrow during the class.

Dr. Brianna Albright returns to the “Be more ACTIVE program in 2019!

Strong Mama, instructed by Dr. Brianna Albright, will be offered again out of the Vankleek Hill Community Centre on Wednesday mornings at 9:30 a.m. As a Pregnancy and Postpartum Athleticism Coach and Mom of 3, Brianna's workouts are designed to get people moving safely while increasing strength and endurance.

BABIES & TODDLERS ARE WELCOME at all classes. As part of our family friendly program, an area will be set up for young children to stay & play or workout alongside Mom. This class is suitable for all fitness levels and all moms-to-be and moms are welcome.

Chantal Lavalée from Fitlife Gym joins our Be more ACTIVE team in 2019!

Chantal is a professional yoga instructor that will teach classes at the Orignal Reception Hall. Strala Yoga is the synergy between body, soul and spirit and regular practice helps to increase body, muscle and deep tissue strength and balance. Yoga will help you feel calmer and improve your focus. This class is for anyone interested; a gentle and respectful way to exercise your body and be healthy.

This class will be offered every Monday at 10 a.m. and Thursday at 5:45 p.m. in L’Orignal in the Chalet abri.

 

Frequently asked questions

 What programs are available for seniors?
Seniors can enjoy the Adult / Senior skate, the Yoga classes held in L’Orignal and we encourage you to try the Roll & Release class which comes highly recommended for seniors.
 Where is the Yoga in L'Orignal?

The yoga will be held in the Chalet abri which is located in the L’Orignal Park (772 Front Road West), just across from the Tennis Court. 

 How do I register?

You can register by:

  • Popping into the Vankleek Hill Community Centre OR by calling Kerri Albright 613-678-3601 between the hours of 10am and 2pm Monday through Friday. Payment can be made cash, cheque or by debit or credit card when paid in the administrative office at the Community Centre.
  • You can email inforecreation@champlain.ca with your name and class(es) you would like to attend and we will add you to our pre-registration list. Payment can be made during the first class, the 1st week of October.  Only cash or cheque can be accepted when paying during the class.
  • You can show up for the FREE class(es) the first week of October and have your 50$ ready (cash or cheque only), you can register on your way in or out, however we do encourage pre-registering so that we can be best prepared.
 Why should I pre-register?
Pre-registering allows us to gauge how many people will be in the class. It allows us to be more prepared at the sign-in table, it ensures we have enough equipment and gives the instructors more time to focus on the class and less time on the registration process.
 Why are children welcome this session?

We live in a community with lots of young children and busy families. This session, we have decided to open the door to kids who would like to Be more ACTIVE alongside their parents.  The Strong Mama is a class where babies and young kids are encouraged although the other classes are not kids classes, we trust that parents will bring children who are mature enough to enjoy and participate in the class, instructors will modify the movement to suit children as needed. Feedback from last year found many parents did not join because they would need to get a sitter while they came to class. This year, we welcome kids 7 to 15 for only 2$ to help promote healthy lifestyles.

Note: Yoga classes in L’Orignal are for adults only during this session.
