Picture of the arena and the ice

The Vankleek Hill Arena was pleased to open the doors to players, coaches, parents and skaters to the brand-new ice surface for the 2023-2024 season as of Thursday, September 14th. Due to material and supplier delays, visitors will notice minor work continuing for a few weeks until the project is completed. Thank you for your patience!

The Vankleek Hill Community Centre reception hall will be reopening as of October 1st, 2023. Any person looking to rent the centre can communicate with the recreation department at 613-678-3601 or inforecreation@champlain.ca .

Rehabilitation of the Vankleek Hill Arena

Update on 2023-03-31

Phase 1 of the Arena Rehabilitation Project is officially completed. The ice rink is now ready, it's time to start working on the lobby. Phase 2 of the project is well underway with demolition almost complete. Phase 2 will mainly address mechanical, electrical and structural deficiencies behind the walls but rest assured when all is complete in August, a fresh and revitalized space is sure to impress everyone.

 Brief Summary and Timeframe

In February 2022, two major capital fundings for its aging arena in Vankleek Hill were announced to the Township of Champlain.  At 45 years old, the arena slab is beyond its lifespan and needs to be replaced. This will ensure its ongoing availability to the many local ice user groups, and will avoid the added costs of emergency replacement. Furthermore, the capital funding received will also allow for other important upgrades to be made to our beloved arena that will further make for a more inclusive, healthy and safe environment for everyone. All groups that use the arena were notified quickly of this great news and relocated to other facilities.

Timeframe

The Vankleek Hill Community Centre closed on the last day of ice on March 31, 2022. The anticipated completion date is August 2023.
