Become a candidate – nominations will open May 1, 2018 

The nomination packages will be available in April 2018 for the October 22, 2018 Municipal Election at Champlain Township, 948 Pleasant Corner Road East, Vankleek Hill and from the link below. Nominations will be accepted from Tuesday, May 1, 2018 until 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 27, 2018. 

A nomination is made by completing and filing in the office of the Clerk a prescribed nomination form (Form 1) and accompanied by a filing fee of $200.00 for the Mayor and $100.00 for all other offices. The filing fee is payable by cash, certified cheque, money order or electronic payment if specified by the Clerk. Candidates will be required to provide proof of identity. Only forms with original signatures will be accepted in person by the candidate or by an agent. Nominations papers are to be accompanied by 25 endorsement signatures from eligible electors (Form 2). The requirement to submit 25 signatures does not apply to candidates running for school board trustee.

In the event there are an insufficient number of certified candidates to fill all positions available, nominations will be reopened for the vacant position only on Wednesday, August 1, 2018 between the hours of 9:00 a.m. and 2:00 pm and such additional nominations, if required, may be filed with the office of the Clerk.

To run for Office you must be:

  • a resident of the Township of Champlain, or an owner or tenant of land in the Township of Champlain, or the spouse of such an owner or tenant; and
  • a Canadian citizen; and
  • at least 18 years old; and
  • not prohibited by any law.

Candidates for School Board Trustee must reside within the Board area and be a supporter of that Board.
