Professional Experiences

Mr. Burroughs was a police officer with the Ontario Provincial Police for 30 years serving people across the province of Ontario. He worked in various fields of policing and enjoyed serving and protecting the citizens of his community.  After retiring from the OPP in 2013, he worked for the Ottawa Police Service Human Resources in the Recruiting Section until June 2020.

Social and Municipal Involvement

Mr. Burroughs coached baseball and hockey ( Novice, Atom and Pee Wee “AA” Eastern Ontario Cobras). As a musician from a young age, he has played music in numerous community functions, parties and church Services.

Being elected as Councillor in Ward 3 (Longueuil) in the 2022 election is his first experience in municipal politics.  In 2014, not being a member of Council, he assisted the Council of the time to secure savings in costs related to court security at the L’Orignal Courthouse.  At that time costs were being billed directly to the Township of Champlain. In 2015 cost sharing measures were brought in and since then the United Counties of Prescott Russell and the Province of Ontario share the whole expenses related to court security. This cost saving measure has led to significant savings for Champlain Township.

Priorities for the Next Four Years

Maintaining sound fiscal responsibility for Champlain Township in the years to come. Inflation has a major impact on the residents of our Township. From food, gas, interest rates, people have noted the increase in prices. It is therefore a requirement for Council to keep expenses under control in order not to financially impact our residents further.
