Council Remuneration and Expenses

In accordance with the Municipal Act, 2001, the Township of Champlain publishes annual information regarding remuneration, benefits, and expenses paid to Members of Council and Council Appointees.

Council remuneration, benefits, and expense budgets are approved annually by Council as part of the Township's Operating Budget during a public meeting. Under Section 284 of the Municipal Act, 2001, the Treasurer is required to prepare an annual statement detailing the remuneration, benefits, and expenses paid during the previous year. The statement is presented to Council and made available to the public.

The reports below provide a summary of remuneration and expenses paid to Members of Council, including compensation, meeting attendance payments, travel expenses, conference and training costs, and other eligible reimbursements incurred while carrying out municipal duties.

Benefits and Reimbursements

Members of Council are eligible for benefits and reimbursements in accordance with Township policies, including:

  • Group life insurance and dependent life insurance
  • Accidental death and dismemberment insurance
  • Extended health and dental benefits
  • Mileage reimbursement for authorized municipal travel
  • Lodging and meal allowances for approved conferences, training, and municipal business
  • Participation in the Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (OMERS)
