Scope of Work
Demolition permits are required when a building’s footprint will be decreased. This may be the entire building or only a portion of it. Exterior walls must be included in the scope of work. The applicant must retain a professional engineer to undertake the general review of the project where:
- The building exceeds 3-storeys in building height, or 600 square metres in building area.
- The building includes pre-tensioned or post-tensioned members.
- The demolition will extend below the level of the footings of an immediately adjacent building.
- Explosives / lasers are proposed to be used for the demolition.

Additional Information
- If demolition debris is transported to the Champlain Municipal Landfill Site, written confirmation from an engineering firm stating that the building does not contain asbestos must be provided. A copy of this confirmation must be submitted to the Municipal Office, the Public Works Department, and the landfill site attendant.
- Written authorization from Enbridge is required prior to the commencement of any work.
- All municipal services must be disconnected and capped at the property line, or their location must be clearly identified with a stake.
- All sewage and water service lines must be disconnected and capped at the property line, or their location must be clearly identified with a stake.
- Any septic tank that will not be reused must be pumped out and either removed, filled with sand, or crushed and properly backfilled.
