Please be advised that the Township of Champlain landfill will remain closed for the 2026 operating season.

The Township of Champlain has been working with the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) regarding the renewal of the landfill’s Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA), which expired in November 2025. As part of this process, establishing the contaminant attenuation zone (CAZ) has proven complex and requires additional testing. Until this work is complete and updated conditions are provided by the MECP, the facility cannot resume operations. Once testing is complete, a report will be presented to Council to determine the required level of investment and the long-term future of the landfill.

While the landfill remains closed, the Township continues to ensure residents have access to safe and convenient waste disposal services. The Annual Large Waste Items Special Collection will proceed as scheduled in May, and both the organic waste collection and the Hazardous Household Waste collection will take place in the fall. At this time, we are awaiting a decision from the Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MECP) on a request for special permission regarding the acceptance of yard waste at the landfill.

Residents may also purchase additional tags at a cost of $3 per bag for yard waste throughout the year.
Residents requiring disposal of household, construction, or organic waste may do so at Gilles R. Mayer Sanitation Ltd. (613-632-2581) or GFL Environmental Inc. (613-538-2776). Fees apply and may differ from those at the Champlain landfill.

The Township thanks residents for their understanding and cooperation
