 Facility Description

The Vankleek Hill Arena offers ice time for numerous activities including hockey, broomball, skating lessons and public skating. This facility is also available for corporate events, conventions, trade shows, receptions and parties.

FREE Public Skating and Pick-Up Hockey Schedule

The arena is closed on Family Day (February 21st).

Individuals of 12 years and younger must be accompanied by an adult or guardian at all times.

Covid-19 Protocols

 General Rules
  • Each individual is responsible to do a COVID self-assessment screening through their league before arriving.
  • All individuals will be asked to sanitize their hands as they enter the facility, must wear a mask even when seated.
  • Individuals that are not part of an Association and/or League will be asked to fill out a screening form upon arrival for tracking purposes.
  • Spectators must leave the facility as soon as the game/practice is over.
  • No gatherings before or after ice time due to capacity limits
  • Anyone who has visited the Vankleek Hill Community Centre/Arena and has tested positive for COVID-19 must notify the Township of Champlain’s Parks and Recreation Department immediately. 

Individuals that did not pass the covid self-assessment screening will not be allowed in the facility.

Covid-19 Self-Assessment

 Capacity

In keeping with the government’s cautious approach, capacity limits will be:

  • 40 people in the lobby;
  • 230 people in the bleachers;
  • 12 people in changing rooms 1-2;
  • 10 people in changing rooms 3-4;
  • 20 people in changing rooms 5-6.
Public Skating and Pick-Up Hockey Measures

Individuals of 12 years old and older must show proof of identification and proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 before they can enter the area.

  • All individuals will be asked to sanitize their hands as they enter the facility, must wear a mask even when seated.
  • Mask can be removed on the ice only.
  • Individuals will be asked to fill out a screening form upon arrival for tracking purposes.
  • Anyone who has visited the Vankleek Hill Community Centre/Arena and has tested positive for COVID-19 must notify the Township of Champlain’s Parks and Recreation Department immediately. 
 Renter's Responsibilities
  • All renters must prepare a safety plan in accordance with O.Reg 364/20, Schedule 1, Section 3.3.
  • All renters must screen coaches, participants, volunteers, parents, referees in advance of entry to the facility.
  • All renters are responsible for ensuring capacity limits are not exceeded.
  • Leagues/ Associations must defer to their Provincial Sport Organizations and EOHU for their sport-specific considerations.
  • All renters are responsible for following all applicable health and safety regulations and ensuring that all people present are adhering to COVID-19 regulations.
  • All renters must maintain a list with names and contact information of all participants attending each rental and must retain the file for at least 30 days in order to provide this information to the Township of Champlain should there be a need to do a contact tracing.
 Dressing Room
  • All individuals will be permitted access to the arena 15-20 minutes before and after their ice time.
  • The use of the showers is permitted. Respect physical distancing.
  • The arena operators will need the time to sanitize the rooms between uses.

The Cougars is playing in the National Capital Junior Hockey League (NCJHL). The NCJHL  has been in existence since 1969 and boasts a long history of very competitive hockey. Visit their website or facebook page for more information and for their schedule.
