Presenting or Speaking at a Municipal Council Meeting

Any person or group who would like to address Council in person shall send a written request to the Clerk at least seven days prior to the date of a regular meeting.  The request shall specify the nature of the business to be discussed and name of the party who will address Council.

Note: All delegates shall be limited in speaking to a period of not more than 10 minutes.

For more details, please refer to the Township of Champlain procedural by-law.

Proceedings

Every municipality and certain local boards must pass a procedure by-law to govern the calling, place and proceedings of their meetings and meetings of certain committees. The content of the procedure by-law is generally up to the council or the local board. Municipalities are required to provide for public notice of meetings in their procedure by-laws. Notice of meetings is an important factor in strengthening municipal accountability and transparency, and encouraging public participation in local government decision making.
