Champlain Township, September 9, 2026 - With the municipal landfill remaining closed, Champlain Township is introducing a temporary drop-off centre this fall to provide residents with a convenient way to dispose of organic yard waste. A temporary drop-off centre will be available every Saturday morning from September 19 to November 14, 2026.

What will be accepted?

The site is for organic yard waste only, including:

  • Leaves
  • Grass clippings
  • Garden waste and plant material
  • Hedge and shrub trimmings
  • Brush
  • Small branches and twigs
  • Pumpkins and other untreated plant-based yard waste

All organic waste must be placed in brown paper yard waste bags.

Tree branches must be tied securely in bundles and must not exceed six feet in length.

What will not be accepted?

No household garbage, recycling, construction or demolition materials, furniture, appliances, hazardous waste, rocks, stumps, treated or painted wood, plastic bags, or other non-organic materials will be accepted.

The temporary site is intended strictly for organic yard waste. Residents are asked to follow all signage and instructions from staff while using the drop-off centre.

Fall Yard Waste Collection

In addition to the temporary drop-off centre, curbside fall yard waste collection will take place from November 2 to 8, 2026.

Residents must place their yard waste at the curb before 6 a.m. on Monday, November 2.

Please note that fall yard waste collection is separate from regular household waste collection and will not necessarily take place on your usual collection day. Yard waste should remain at the curb until it has been collected.
