October 19, 2026, Township of Champlain — The Township of Champlain is joining municipalities across Ontario in celebrating Local Government Week. This week highlights the role local governments play in providing essential services, supporting community initiatives, and helping make our communities great places to live, work, and grow.
Local government is the level of government closest to residents. From maintaining roads and public spaces to providing recreation opportunities, supporting community planning, and delivering essential municipal services, the work of local government touches many aspects of our daily lives.
“Local Government Week is a great opportunity to recognize the dedicated employees who work every day to serve our community,” said Kevin Tessier, Chief Administrative Officer of the Township of Champlain. “Every department plays an important role in providing the services and support our residents depend on each day.”
What Does Local Government Do?
Local governments are responsible for a wide range of services that residents rely on every day. In Champlain, municipal employees help maintain roads and infrastructure, parks and recreational facilities, and provide services related to planning and development, water and wastewater, fire and emergency services, waste management, as well as community programs and events. These services help keep our community safe, connected, and welcoming, while supporting the quality of life of residents throughout Champlain.
Local government also provides opportunities for residents to participate in decisions that affect their community. Residents can get involved by participating in public consultations, providing feedback, volunteering on municipal committees and boards, and staying informed about local initiatives.
