October 15, 2026, Township of Champlain — From exploring fire trucks and trying on firefighter gear to watching live emergency response demonstrations, residents of all ages had the opportunity to connect with their local firefighters and learn valuable fire safety tips during Fire Prevention Week, held October 4 to 10, 2026. Throughout the fall, the Champlain Fire Department brought fire prevention education into the community through school visits, hands-on demonstrations, and interactive activities designed to make fire safety engaging and accessible to everyone.

Opening Our Doors to the Community

A highlight of the week was the Fire Department's Open Houses on October 7, when both the L’Orignal and Vankleek Hill fire stations welcomed families for fire truck tours, equipment demonstrations, and conversations with firefighters. Visitors in L’Orignal also witnessed a vehicle extrication demonstration and a simulated vehicle fire response, while children in Vankleek Hill enjoyed trying on firefighter gear.

Bringing Fire Safety into the Community

Firefighters also connected with residents through a fire safety presentation and extinguisher demonstration at La Seigneurie apartments, as well as information booths at Asselin Your Independent Grocer and RONA. Educating the next generation was another important focus! Firefighters visited local schools throughout the fall, participating in evacuation drills, sharing fire safety knowledge, and introducing students to firefighting equipment.

Working Together for a Fire-Safe Community

These activities offered more than just a glimpse into the work of firefighters. They helped strengthen community connections and reminded residents that fire prevention starts with awareness and preparation. The Township of Champlain sincerely thanks its dedicated firefighters, along with the schools, local businesses, and residents who participated and helped make these initiatives a success.
Fire Prevention Week may be over, but keeping Champlain safe is a year-round effort!
