Candidate Nomination Period

May 1 to August 21, 2026 (2:00 p.m.)

Third Party Advertiser Registration Period

May 1, 2026 (8:30 a.m.) to October 23, 2026 (4:30 p.m.)

Withdrawal of Nomination Deadline

August 21, 2026 (2:00 p.m.)

Election Period (Internet and Telephone Voting)

October 21 to October 26, 2026

Election Day

October 26, 2026 (until 8:00 p.m.)

About the Election

The Municipal and School Board Election provides eligible voters with the opportunity to elect representatives who will make decisions on behalf of the community for the next four years.

During the 2026 election, voters will elect:

  • One Mayor
  • Eight Councillors (two Councillors representing each ward)
  • School Board Trustees for the English Public, English Catholic, French Public, and French Catholic school boards

Successful candidates will serve a four-year term beginning November 15, 2026, and ending November 14, 2030.

Election Legislation

Municipal and school board elections in Ontario are governed by the Municipal Elections Act, 1996 (MEA).

The Act establishes the rules and procedures for municipal elections, including candidate nominations, voter eligibility and voting procedures, campaign finances, third-party advertising, and recounts and election compliance.

The Township of Champlain conducts its elections in accordance with the Municipal Elections Act and applicable provincial regulations.
