L'Orignal Beach Unsafe for Swimming Due to Water Quality Concerns

September 3, 2026, Township of Champlain - L'Orignal Beach is currently considered unsafe for swimming following recent water quality testing by the Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU).

Testing identified bacterial levels above provincial recreational water quality guidelines. Elevated levels of E. coli are the most common reason a public beach is posted and may indicate contamination that can increase the risk of illness.

As a precaution, residents and visitors are advised not to swim or enter the water while the advisory is in effect.

The EOHU will continue to monitor the beach and conduct additional water sampling. The advisory will remain in place until test results confirm that bacterial levels have returned to acceptable standards.
