The Role at a Glance
The Municipality is seeking a detail-oriented and customer-focused Tax Clerk to join our Finance Department. Reporting to the Treasurer and working under the direction of the Deputy Treasurer, this position is responsible for the administration of property tax billing, collection, and assessment-related functions while providing clerical and administrative support to the Finance team.

What you will do
As the Tax Clerk, you will:
- Prepare and administer interim and final property tax billings, supplementary and omitted tax billings, and tax adjustments.
- Maintain and update assessment and tax rolls, including ownership and address changes.
- Process tax payments, mortgage deposits, pre-authorized payment plans, and monthly penalty and interest calculations.
- Reconcile tax sub-ledgers to the general ledger and prepare financial reports as required.
- Complete and process relevant Municipal Property Assessment Corporation (MPAC) and municipal tax forms.
- Respond to property tax inquiries from residents and stakeholders in a prompt, professional, and courteous manner.
- Support tax sale procedures and ensure compliance with applicable legislation and municipal policies.
- Assist with departmental administrative duties, including correspondence, reporting, invoice verification, filing, and general office support.
- Provide coverage for other Finance Department clerical positions as required

What You Bring
- College diploma or certificate in Office Administration, Accounting, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an accounting environment.
- Fluency in both English and French.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and accounting software.
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, and public relations skills.
- Experience working in a municipal environment is considered an asset.
- Completion of, or willingness to obtain, the Municipal Tax Administration Program through OMTRA or an equivalent designation.
- A satisfactory Police Criminal Record Check as a condition of employment

- The Township of Champlain offers a competitive compensation package with the salary ranging from $57,779 to $68,894 per year. The salary is determined upon hire based on your qualifications, experience, skills, and knowledge.
