Champlain Township Welcomes Its New Civil Engineering Technologist

CHAMPLAIN TOWNSHIP WELCOMES ITS NEW CIVIL ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGIST

Champlain, June 11, 2021 — The Township of Champlain is pleased to announce the nomination of Mr. Benjamin Lalonde to the newly created position of Civil Engineering Technologist. He began his new duties on Monday, June 7, 2021.

Mr. Lalonde has a college diploma in civil engineering technology—construction and various certifications in occupational health and safety. He was most recently an estimator at Asco Constructions Ltd.

Chief Administrative Officer Paula Knudsen says she is excited to have filled two important positions in the Public Works Department. “We are fortunate to have found such qualified individuals in these difficult recruiting times. His main mandate will be to update and monitor the asset management plan. The new technologist will work with the engineering firms to establish the needs and priorities for repairs and reconstruction of the township’s roads, bridges, water and sewer systems and other vital infrastructures.”

New Public Works Director Sebastien Levesque is confident that several projects will be completed with Lalonde’s arrival. “With the hiring of a new civil engineering technologist, we are ensuring close monitoring of the asset management plan and the condition of our roads and other infrastructures. Mr. Lalonde will be involved in several capital projects and will oversee the municipality’s various worksites, such as the Stephens and St. Denis Streets project.”

During his professional career, Lalonde has also worked as a productor/estimator for A. Potvin Construction from 2012 to 2020. Lalonde developed his skills in supervising construction sites and workers during his student employment as a civil engineering technician in 2008 at Nation Municipality.

“This is a great challenge for me! I had the chance to get a taste of the municipal environment during my short stint at The Nation Municipality and I am pleased to be able to contribute to large-scale projects again. I am confident that my experience in the field will help me understand the challenges of construction sites,” said Benjamin Lalonde, the new Civil Engineering Technologist for the Township of Champlain.

Members of Council are delighted with this new position and join the Township of Champlain staff in giving him the support he needs in this new challenge. It is with great pleasure that Mr. Lalonde is welcomed to the municipality.
